My Career New Jersey
What is My Career New Jersey
My Career NJ is a one stop shop for New Jersey residents looking to up-skill, find job training, make a career move, or just simply look for career related resources.
As the product designer for My Career NJ, my goal is to take an array of tools, built by different agencies, and combine them into a cohesive visual and experiential product.
My Career NJ averages about 20K users per month and services training providers, training seekers, and others on their career journey.
My Career New Jersey consists of three main tools:
Training Explorer - Users can search through a dynamic list of accredited trainings in the state of New Jersey. Some qualify for tuition assistance.
Career Navigator - Resident can upload a resume and provide their skills. Career Navigator then uses it's proprietary recommendation engine to match residents with job and training opportunities related to those skills. Additionally, users can upvote or downvote suggestions to help tailor the suggestions even further.
Career Pathways - This is a beta tool focused on providing users a pathway to careers in the most in-demand industries in New Jersey. Based on field research and job data, users can select an occupation within a field and see what skills, training and education is related. Currently, the tool is focused on manufacturing but will expand to include at several other industries in the coming months.
Research and User Insights
My Career NJ is focused on two main user groups: jobseekers & qualified employment counselors.
>Jobseekers: These users are looking for help in upskilling, job placement, and financial assistance.
>Qualified employment counselors: These users tend to work at career one-stops and help residents get matched up to training and other services.
Our team interviewed both groups extensively, focusing on those most vulnerable and in the most need of these services. Below are some of our key findings.
